This is a 1 year conversion course that has been designed for graduates of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture looking to become Engineers on ships. The course leads to Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency (CoC), awarded by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, after six months of sea service, enabling the cadets to become Marine Engineers on board Merchant Navy Vessels (Ships) anywhere in the world. It is the gateway for Mechanical & Naval Architecture Graduates to enter Merchant Navy.
The course focuses on technical aspects related to Marine Engineering. The curriculum for this course consists of concepts and processes involved in the manufacture, designing and operation of ship machinery and engines.
After completing GME course, one can start a career in the Merchant Navy as a Marine Engineer. After relevant years of sea-service and clearing some training modules you can rise through the ranks and become a Chief Engineer.
