Diploma in Marine Engineering (DME) is a 2 year strictly residential pre-sea training program that is designed to prepare students to work as Marine Engineers with National and International Merchant ships.
The course focuses on technical aspects of Marine Engineering and covers most key topics such as safety technology, marine machinery, naval architecture, ship design, automation and control, ship construction, communication skills, marine electrical and electronics systems.
After successful completion of this course, students will get to experience sea life as they will have to go through 6 months sea-service. After this period and clearing safety courses, training modules and tests, passing MEO Class-4 Part B test, a cadet is issued Marine Engineering Officer Class 4 Certificate of Competency (CoC), post which one can work as a Marine Engineer on a Merchant ship anywhere in the world.
One can also decide to appear for further education and exams to acquire Marine Engineer Class 1 Certificate of Competency (CoC).
